Naming Body Parts

Last week, Erin's Speech Therapist asked me how many body parts Erin can recognize.

Wow. I know some of Erin's hearing peers are naming some, if not most, body parts. But we had not even considered working with her on that. When I asked why, she told me that it is a very good way for them to tell definitively what she is and is not hearing.

She asked us to start working on some body parts. So, we started on two or three over the weekend. Tonight we asked her "Where is your hand?"

She said "Hah!" and pointed to her hand.

We looked at each other in shock. Did we really hear what we heard???

I said "Erin, where is Daddy's hand?"

She said "Agg-ee-hah!" and pointed at Daddy's hand.

I said "Erin, where is your nose?"

She said "oh!" and pointed at her nose.

Oh.My.Goodness!

She was bored by this point and wanted nothing to do with "Where is your belly?"

However, 10 minutes later, when I asked "Erin, where is your belly?"

She ran over to Daddy, lifted up his shirt, stuck her finger in his belly and giggled and giggled away.

And so did we.

We can't wait for therapy next week. We had this week off. Her therapist is going to be so stunned when she sees how far she has come in two weeks.

I just keep saying it.... We are SO blessed.

Toes's Language is progressing nicely

More and more frequently, we are picking up on words that Erin is trying to say. We don't get a lot of consistent repetition at this point, but she does seem to be saying a lot of things beyond her standard "hi!".

We have heard versions of:

Daddy
Book
Me-Ow (cat)
More
Milk
Bath
Ball
OK
All Done
On

And, Mama. :D
