I received a response to my email almost immediately.
The school has agreed to modify the dates of the IEP to 8/20 - 10/20/2008. This is the scenario I wanted the most. I was concerned that if we met in July to draft goals for Erin, she would likely meet them before the school year started - or very soon thereafter.
Also, this will give the Teacher of the Deaf that has been assigned to Erin the chance to see Erin's school and get a better feel for what she may or may not need there in the way of services.
My only remaining concern is the frequent advice I have received that it is harder to get new services added to subsequent IEPs after signing the initial. But it is a gamble I am willing to take at this point.
I think this is the best scenario for all parties - and most importantly, the best scenario for Erin.
What a relief to have this resolved - at least for now.

Yeah! I can tell from the tone of your post that you are feeling much better. Now you can enjoy the summer weather with that beautiful little girl without the thought of all of this hanging over you!

I would have loved to have seen Dr. M's face when Toes sang the ABC's for him!! You are VERY on point with him being "abrupt"! Thomas feels the same way Toes does~ especially after Dr. M rubbed his head so hard last time I swear some of his curls fell off. Thomas gave him a look like "what in the heck are you doing to me?" Quite frankly..I was thinking the same thing!!! lol
That's wonderful that you got a quick response! I'm impressed! Now if only doctors and insurance companies could work that quickly. . . .*sigh*

Oh this is good news Wendy. Great job on your part being so diplomatic and calm, I know how tough it is to separate the emotions from the process.
I'm heading out with Ethan in 10 min. to get his slp eval by the school. I'm not sure why, but the teacher of the deaf who will be there is planning to have him play and interact with a set of twins they have in her class who have one impant each. I hope they aren't planning to make any comparisons, but how could they not?
I'm nervous. This whole process has been pathetic so far, I need to conjure up some of your can do attitude.

Being a teacher I know how IEPs can be such a pain in the &#@ for parents - good for you for not giving up and knowing what needs to be done for your child! You'd be surprised at the parents who just "go with the flow". Congrats to you and that precious little girl!
Awesome! I hope Trey's IEP goes as well tomorrow. We were supposed to get both groups together on Monday (the local School District, and his AVT/Oral school), but 3 of the team members from the local S.D. came down w/ the stomach flu. So, now I'm meeting w/ them on my own tomorrow. Not the plan, but at least I've 'been there done that', I think???
